Resumes
Check how well a resume fits a job
Read the Fit check on a tailored resume: what the posting asks for that your resume misses, and any claim that goes past your profile.
A Fit check reads a tailored resume against the job description you are aiming at, and against your own profile. It answers two questions before a recruiter asks them. What does this posting want that my resume does not show? And does my resume claim more than I can back up?
How to get one
You do not run the Fit check by hand. It arrives with the tailored resume.
- Open a job on your Board that has the full job description saved.
- Click Customize resume. See Create and customize your resume for that step in full.
- Open the tailored resume from Resumes. The Fit check sits on the page.
The check needs the job description to compare against. A job with no description saved gives the AI nothing to measure, so paste the description in or capture it with the browser extension.
What the check tells you
- Missing. Skills, tools, certifications, and requirements the posting asks for that your resume does not show. This is your pre-application to-do list.
- Claims that go too far. Anything in the resume that your profile does not support. Scope that grew, a skill you never listed, a title that reads more senior than the job you held.
- Notes on the writing. Comments on your summary, your skills list, and individual bullet points, each with a suggested fix and a severity of low, medium, or high.
How to act on it
- Read the missing list first. If you have the skill and the resume omits it, add it to your profile and tailor again.
- Fix every claim that goes too far. An interview is where an inflated line gets tested, and it is a bad place to find out.
- Work the high-severity notes. Leave the low ones unless you have time.
- Treat a long missing list as information, not a verdict. Two or three gaps are normal. Ten gaps usually means the role is a stretch, and your hours are better spent on a closer match.
Good to know
- The check measures your resume against your profile, so a thin profile produces weak results. Fill in the profile first.
- The Fit check is generated commentary about you, not data you gave us. It stays out of your data export for that reason. See Your data, your control.
- The check runs as part of customizing a resume, which uses 1 AI run from your daily allowance. It does not cost a second run.
