Your data, your control

Your job search is your record, not ours. You can bring a spreadsheet in, take a full copy out, and close your account whenever you want. This page explains how to move your data, and what we do and do not do with it while it is here.

Bring your spreadsheet in

Most people arrive with a half-finished spreadsheet. You do not have to retype it.

1. Open Settings and find Import & export.
2. Click Import CSV and choose your file.
3. Each row becomes an application on your Board.

The importer reads the same columns the export writes: company, role, stage, location, remote, url, salaryMin, salaryMax, currency, appliedDate, deadline, and notes. Only company or role has to be there, and the heading spelling is not case-sensitive. A stage name that matches one of your own stages lands in that column. Anything else starts in your first stage. One import takes up to 2,000 rows and a 2 MB file.

Take your applications out

Click Export CSV in the same place. You get every application you track, with its stage, dates, salary range, posting link, and notes. The file opens in any spreadsheet program. There is no limit on how often you export.

Take a full copy out

The CSV covers your applications. For everything else, ask for the full archive when you delete your account: tick Email me a copy of my data first in Settings. We email a one-time link to a zip that holds:

• Your applications, as both CSV and JSON.
• Your profile: experience, education, and skills.
• Your contacts and your tasks.
• Every resume and cover letter, as .json and as .docx.

The archive is a copy of your data, not a backup of your account. It cannot restore the account, but the applications file imports straight into a new one.

What we never do with your data

• We do not sell your personal information for money. Not your profile, not your resumes, not your application history.
• We do not send your resume or your applications to advertisers. Ad code never sees the content of your career data, and never targets ads with it.
• We do not show your data to a recruiter or an employer. Job Umbrella is a private workspace. Nobody browses you here.
• We do not share your AI key. It is encrypted at rest and never sent back to your browser.

The one place a third party is involved: ads

Ads are not running yet. We plan to show them on the free tier to keep the core service free. Nothing below happens until they start.

When ads do start, we use Google AdSense. Ads appear only for signed-in users on the free plan, in three places: your Board, your Applications list, and Find Jobs. The Google advertising code itself loads on every page, though, including pages with no ad on them. What that code gets is standard web data: your IP address, your device and browser details, and how you interact with an ad.

What the ad code does not get is the part that matters. Not your resume text, the companies you apply to, your stages, your notes, your target titles, or your AI key. None of it goes to an advertiser, and none of it targets an ad.

You can decline personalized ads in the consent message, or use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information control. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Two ways to share less

Two choices cut down what leaves Job Umbrella at all.

1. Use your own AI key. With your key, your resume text goes to the AI provider you pick, under your account with them, instead of through ours. You choose the company that sees it. See AI features and using your own AI key.
2. Take the paid plan when it opens. A subscription is planned that removes ads. No ads means no advertising cookies and no third-party ad code on your pages at all.

Sharing you turn on yourself

If you work with a case manager, a coach, or an advisor, you can authorize them to see your job-search history. That sharing happens only when you ask for it, you pick the person, and you can revoke access at any time. Your password and your AI key are never included.

Closing your account

Delete your account from Settings. It removes your data from our database, and it cannot be undone. Take the emailed archive first, or export your CSV, so you keep the record of every application you sent.
